When a plant lacks a mobile nutrient—like nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, or magnesium—it breaks down its oldest leaves and sends those resources to the new growth. The bottom leaf yellows because it is being intentionally drained. When it lacks an immobile nutrient—like iron, sulfur, calcium, or boron—it can't do this. Underwatering

Will a yellow leaf ever turn green again?
